Hyper One 7 Evo - a special review

I went down to the club yesterday and although I did not race, it was a very good day there. Saw a couple of folks but best of all I was lucky enough to get to see Steve Gettings' HoBao Hyper One 7 Evo.
I've heard of this car before but have never seen one so this lucky run-in with Steve was a good stroke of luck. This is not a review per se but Steve did so much work on this 1/7th nitro vehicle that you have to read the rest of this special overview and see what I mean. Here is what he has to say ...
Here are the pictures of my HoBao Hyper One 7 Evo fitted with the Ferrari Bodyshell.
These models were introduced around four years ago and are still on the HoBao website.
The front and rear suspension is from the Hyper 7 PBS rallycross with a mixture of parts from other Hobao models and bespoke parts including the bodies and rear exhaust system.
The model was originally available with three body types (Ferrari, Lamborgini and Porsche) and came with either the two speed gearbox (as mine is) or two speed plus reverse.
I believe that the reverse version is no longer available in the UK.
I have carried out a few modifications to what is really a RTR parking lot model to improve the handling dynamics (and make it a worthy on-road racer). Here are the modifications:-
- Leading caster reduced from 22 degrees to 11 degrees.
- Changing the engine from the Hyper21 pull start to a Nova Rossi 21 race engine.
- Changing the servos to high torque Ace 1015s and 40 mhz radio.
- Increasing the anti-roll bars to 3.3m/m dia.
- Replacing the springs with 1/5 scale types.
- Changing the front bumper layout to allow for the caster change.
- Changing the overall gear ratios.
- Using racing wheels and tyres.
- These are the main ones, there are many small changes and tweeks which just help with the model's overall performance and handling.
Feel free to use my pictures on your website, I look forward to seeing the car on 3hobby! If you want any more information please E-Mail or give me a call.
Best Regards,
Steve Gettings.

LOVE that custom exhaust!!!
And below - the car with a Porche bodyshell.
The end? Not quite ... Steve now has this to say:-
" I've changed the exhaust tips on the Ferrari as I thought they looked a bit naff. So here are a few shots of the changed ones. "
The end? Hope not ... if you meet the man and listen to him enthusiastically talk about this car, you just know he'll keep on improving it.
